STEPHENVILLE PD TO HOST MATURE DRIVING SCHOOL

What should you do when driving throws you a curve?  Crowded roads, aggressive drivers, and even eyesight that’s not what it used to be can spell trouble on the road.  That’s why you should take the AARP 55 Alive driver safety program, the 8-hour classroom refresher course designed especially for drivers 50 and over.  Co-sponsored by the Stephenville Police Department, the 55 Alive Driving School is put on under the direction of Bonnie Wood, an AARP instructor.  The course will be conducted at the Senior Citizens Center on May 8th and May 9th from 12 noon until 4:00p.m.  This program is offered to those 50 and older at a cost of $10.00 for the two-day session.

Newly updated and revised, AARP 55 Alive will help you meet the challenges you face daily on today’s roads.  In lively discussion groups led by expert volunteers in your community, you’ll learn:

·        Defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road

·        How to adjust to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time

·        How to deal with aggressive drivers

·        How to safety use a car phone

·        How medications may affect driving

·        How to safely use anti-lock brakes, air bags and safety belts

·        And more!

Most importantly, the curriculum provides opportunities for participants to identify individual problem areas and gain information needed to improve their behavior as drivers.  This course is not offered for those who wish to “fix” a ticket.

Upon completion of this course, the certificate you receive is recognized by many insurance companies as applicable toward a reduction in auto insurance premiums.  Your own insurance company can tell you if you are eligible for any discounts with them.

If you would like to participate in this program, please go by the Senior Citizen Center located at 164 E College or call 918-1288 to preregister for this course.
