There have been many changes to the Traffic Code.  Most of these changes went into effect on September 01, 2001.  I have added the text to some of them.

The City of Stephenville wants to remind everyone that Mandatory Water Conservation is still in affect.  Beginning Monday, August 21, 2000 anyone who is in violation will be issued a citation.

Due to drought conditions Erath County Judge Tab Thompson has issued and emergency burn ban effective immediately until further notice from Commissioners Court.  Violation of the Court's Order restricting outdoor burning is a Class C Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00.

The City of Stephenville has implemented Stage 2 of the water conservation plan.   Stage 2 is No watering on Mondays and Thursdays.  Watering is allowed only between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.; and 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for the remaining days of the week.

We are requesting the assistance of our community for a very important educational program entitled Every 15 Minutes.   This program is focused on the consequences of drinking and driving.

Wolfe Nursery Road is now open and is two ONE WAY STREETS.  Be careful when entering this road.  The Frey Street extension from Roland to Wolfe Nursery Road is now open as well.  The speed limit on both of these roads is 40 MPH.

The Meet the Officers page has been updated with the arrival of our new Chief Roy Halsell.   We have also added a page for our Citizen Police Academy.   Also keep in mind that the CrimeStoppers page is updated weekly.


The Stephenville Police Department announces the beginning of its Police Explorer program.  This is a Police related extension of the Boys Scouts program and is open to boys and girls.  Kids between the ages of 14 and 18 can join.  A background investigation will be conducted on each applicant, as they will be working closely with the police.  Participants will be given hands on training in a phases on police work, including possible participation in some investigations.  This program is just getting started but the sky is the limit on what it may involve.  Interested persons should contact Sgt. Jimmy Kennerly of the Stephenville Police Department or Sgt. Jim Cooley of the Erath County Sheriff's Department.

The Stephenville Police Department announces the beginning of its Citizens Police Academy.  The first academy started in the beginning of March and is now in progress.  The academy is held one night a week for approximately ten weeks and is an opportunity for people who live or work in Stephenville to learn more about what the police do.

The Academy is not intended to teach citizens how to be police officers, that course is 560 hours long.  It is, however, a chance for citizens to get an inside view of police work and learn about the laws, policies, procedures and training used by the department.

A few of the topics covered in the academy will be: penal code and other laws, domestic violence and child abuse, DWI, patrol tactics and techniques, pursuits, a shoot/don't shoot training session, and the Special Response Team.

Many more topics are covered during the class.  Any interested person should contact the Stephenville Police Department Resource Officer, Wanda Pringle at 254-918-1200 or come by the Police Department   Monday through Friday 8-5.
