Community Resource Officer
This position is responsible for educating the public in matters relating to crime
prevention.
Some examples include:
Citizens Police Academy
Citizens and business owners are taught a strong working knowledge of police operations.
This makes for a better working relationship with the public.
McGruff the Crime Dog
A program to teach younger citizens crime prevention.
Crime stoppers Program
A very successful program where citizens are allowed to call in without
identifying themselves to help solve crimes and receive a reward (cash).
Heat Program (help end auto theft)
A program in which a citizen may have a sticker placed on their vehicle,
which will allow the Police to stop if after a certain hour of the night
because the citizen is normally not out after those hours.
Robbery Prevention for Financial Institutions
Bank employees are taught robbery prevention and guidelines on how to
react to a robbery.
Bicycle safety and Bicycle Rodeos
Young citizens are taught bicycle safety rules.
Triad
Organization composed of senior citizens, representatives of the
Stephenville Police Department and the Erath County Sheriff's office.
This group works together on issues affecting senior citizens and look
for solutions.
Operation ID
The Police Department has engraving tools available for the public to
mark their property with their driver's license number. This enhances
the chances of recovery should you lose your property to theft.
